Making you own granola might seem like an unnecessarily bothersome thing to do, but it’s actually ridiculously simple and requires minimum effort. All you do it mix some oil and sweetener together with a pinch of salt and then mix the oats into that. Put it in the oven for about half an hour and you’re done. Plus, you have the added bonus of knowing what’s in yours. This recipe is for a basic version, as in just roasted rolled oats, but you can go anywhere from there, adding nuts, seeds and dried fruit as you like. Feel free to run away with it.
Prep time: 5 minutes. Cooking time: 30 minutes.
Makes about 300g.
- 50ml groundnut oil
- 25ml sesame oil
- 50ml maple syrup
- 2tbsp coconut nectar
- Pinch flakes sea salt
- 175g rolled oats
Preheat the oven to gas 4/180C/350F and line a baking tray with greaseproof paper.
Put all the ingredients apart from the oats into a mixing bowl and whisk together until fully incorporated. Add the oats and stir with a spoon again until fully mixed. Spread the mixture out onto the baking tray and place in the middle of the oven for 20 minutes. Take them out and give them a good mix around, then put them back in for another 10 minutes, or until golden brown. Allow to cool completely on the tray. You can store them in an air-tight container for about 6 weeks.
